The best cities in Europe for Spanish food, ranked
We ranked every European city in our database by the number of Spanish restaurants and tapas bars we have verified there, with the average Google rating and total review count as evidence of depth. Spain itself is excluded: this map covers the diaspora. Counts reflect cities we have searched so far, not a census.

London leads with 144 tracked Spanish restaurants, ahead of Berlin (43) and Paris (41) - while Germany's spread is the real story: no single huge scene, but Spanish tables across dozens of mid-size cities. Per capita the picture flips: Porto leads with 7.3 Spanish venues per 100,000 residents - density, not size, is where the smaller cities win.
How we count: one listing is one venue, counted under the city Google reports for it. Because that field arrives messy, we strip postcodes, district and province codes (so "Roma RM", "London SE1 1TU" and "-007 Lisboa" all land on their city), ignore case and accents, and merge language variants of the same name (Milan = Milano, Munich = München, Cologne = Köln, Frankfurt = Frankfurt am Main). When the field holds only a postcode, we assign the town from the venue's address instead of dropping it into a blank row. The per 100k column then divides each city's venue count by its city-proper population - the density of Spanish tables per 100,000 inhabitants. Populations come from national statistics offices and municipal registers (compiled in Wikipedia's city population lists), checked 11 Sep 2026: every ranked city carries an official city-proper figure at the latest reference date we could source - census 2022 for Dublin (CSO), 2023 for the French cities (INSEE), mid-2023 for the UK cities (ONS/NRS), 2024-2025 for the German cities (Destatis/IT.NRW), 2025 for Zurich (Stadt Zürich), Frankfurt (Stadt Frankfurt), Hanover (LH Hannover), Gothenburg (SCB) and Budapest (KSH), and 2026 for Amsterdam (CBS) and Copenhagen (Københavns Kommune). Each figure's year, boundary and source URL is recorded in the repo at data/city_populations.json, and the ranking build fails if any ranked city lacks one. Boundary note: London is counted as Greater London and Brussels as the Brussels-Capital Region, matching how our map pins cover the urban area; for the rest, city-proper boundaries apply, so where a statistical boundary is narrower than the area our listings cover, the rate is an approximation and we say so here rather than hide it.
